    How to Run a Lathe
    Manual Description:
    Number of Pages:

This is a reproduction, not a photocopy, of an original South Bend How to Run a Lathe 55th Edition. This manual covers South Bend lathes made in the early years circa 1950s-late 1900s. This is the operators manual that South Bend made for their 9"-24" lathes produced in that time frame. It covers everything shown in the contents section listed below and more.
For your convenience, I have printed up three different version of this How to Run a Lathe manual to cover the large span of lathes that South Bend produced from circa 1906 to the late 1900s. The approximate date of the manuals I have are from 1906-1930s, 1930s-1950s, and 1950s-late 1900s. Some of the manuals overlap on certain machines and parts, because South Bend didn't change every machine and part at precise times, but I can help you match the appropriate manual with your machine.
I reproduced this manual, because of the many request from my customers that wanted a cleaner larger manual that is easier to view. This manual has been enlarged from 5.25"x8"  to 8.5"x11" and is laser printed. It is comb bound so it lays flat on the work bench. Like all of my other manuals, I have digitally edited every page so it looks as good or better than the original.
I am aware that there are original versions of this manual sold on eBay, but I am not trying to compete with those manuals. This manual was reproduced for my South Bend customers that have requested it.
    Contents:
    Gear Box:
Some of the lathes made for the time frame covered by this manual were made without gear boxes for threading, but some did have a gear box. Below is a picture of the gear box that was used in this time frame.

    Overview:
I have collected this information for many years and have found the information they contain to be priceless in using and setting up the machines properly. I believe this manual will be a valuable resource of knowledge that will provide a lot of helpful information that is often hard to find. My manuals are not photocopies. I maintain a high standard of quality in my reproductions. Most of the manuals I reproduce look better than their originals. I have professionally digitally edited every page, and removed stains, wrinkles and handwriting. All of the manuals are printed on thick white paper to withstand shop wear and tear.
