Description
For your consideration is this rare pair of vintage 1950s MaryJane dolls/Terri Lee clones:- Made for only one year between 1953-1954 by
G. H. & E. Freydberg, Inc.
and
Kathryn Kay Toy Kreations, Inc.
owned by
Kathryn Fassel,
and then ceased production due to lawsuit from Terri Lee Co. who shut them down. Both are unmarked, as was typical of these dolls.
- Measure 16" of hard plastic with wigs, with sleep eyes, closed wider mouth than Terri Lee, and more slender, with head-turning walker bodies.
-
First doll has
red braids (one is now loose w/out elastic), brown sleep eyes w/upper lashes.
Wears a printed green pinafore over yellow dress (not sure if original). I have added the shoes. She is in the better shape of the two.
- Other doll has brown sleep eyes with upper lashes, long red wavy hair that needs work. Wears a violet tutu (no undergarments) that needs work/refreshing/airing from being stored. I have added the pink ballet slippers. Has mark along seam of right arm consistent with wear/age on hard plastic (see pic).
- Both still maintain good facial coloring, bright red lips.
- Both doll heads appear to hang slightly forward with a gap in the backs of their necks (see pics). Not sure if this is how they were made or b/c they may need re-stringing.
- Mary Jane dolls seem to have been made with an interesting expression - a lot of attitude!
- A must for Terri Lee collectors; complete your collection now with these rare beauties!
- From estate sale, sold as is, final sale.
