1940's. Art Nouveau Era
The plate measures 9", porcelain, square shaped with rounded scalloped corners, ivory, brown, yellow, blue, red, green, gold; floral pattern with brightly coloured flowers over a background of ivory and brown; in centre of plate is a circle that has a gold rim; blue outer edge with gold swirls on top; ivory coloured centre with red trim; out from circle come 3 blue lines (appear similar to stems) with flowers attached; on reverse side is maker's mark, stamped in ink "Royal Staffordshire Porcelain (image of crown over crest) W/England/W (inside crest)/Cairo/8920
The plate is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Royal Staffordshire Porcelain- also known as A.J. Wilkinson Ltd. Arthur J Wilkinson (Ltd) operating at the Royal Staffordshire Pottery (and formerly at the Central Pottery), in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Mr. Wilkinson introduced with considerable success gold lustre on the graniteware. This plate is in the CAIRO pattern, late Art Nouveau to early Art Deco is styling
